Today, Wednesday September 7, is Indigenous Literacy Day– a day of fundraising and advocacy for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. To celebrate, and to help further the cause of Indigenous literacy in Australia, we at The Lifted Brow will donate twenty per cent of all today’s sales through our online shop to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation exists to make positive changes in the lives of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children through increasing literacy. Their vital work provides remote Indigenous Australian communities with books and resources, creates links between these communities and the Australian publishing industry, and assists in the writing and publishing of books for Indigenous Australian children. In short: they’re an incredible organisation doing such important work. (Learn more about that work here.)
So: if you have ever thought that you would like to buy something from us here at the Brow—such as, say, a subscription, a copy of Briohny Doyle’s The Island Will Sink, one of our terrifically fashionable t-shirts or tote bags, or even some back issues to fill the gaps in your Brow collection—well, now’s the time to buy it if ever there was one. Whip out your credit card, get yourself something nice, and also help a very good organisation do very important things.
(If you already have all the Brow-related things that a person could ever want, or if you value efficiency in all things including donating, or if you hate us and everything we have ever made, you can donate directly to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We don’t care if you don’t buy our stuff today – all we really, truly, want to do is to help the Indigenous Literacy Foundation make some money to help further the very excellent and important work they do.)
